Lottery Award 2015

Club Working Party

In 2013 a Club working party was created to raise funds for the purchase of some new mats to replace our 25 year old ones.  We soon discovered the need was much greater than just replacement mats and set ourselves the challenge of obtaining an Electric Self Winding Mat Machine.   With a large number of the bowlers in their late 70s, 80s and 90s, we had the problem of finding enough bowlers physically strong enough to operate our existing heavy manual winding machine.

Faced with the prospect that this was going to seriously jeopardise the Club's future and the loss of a much-valued community group, it was decided to investigate the possibility of obtaining an Electronic Winding Machine with the help of a grant from Sports England.  Using £1000 from the Club's funds which had been raised in the previous two years, we received £6258 from Sports England for the purchase of the new machine.

The Club would like to acknowledge the support of the Sports England Lottery team at the stage of registration and during the completion of the bid which we found extremely helpful and something the lead member valued immensely.

During this year the Club has gained some enthusiastic new members some of whom have never played the game before and this coming winter will be playing in one of the teams!

What a Difference the Lottery Fund Can Make

The introduction of the new winding machine has meant the Club has taken on a whole new image with us now able to advertise the ease and difference it has made to the laying out and rolling back of the mats.

The Sports England Lottery Award

Sports England Awarded the Club the Grant in September 2015 and accepted our Measurement & Evaluation Assessment Form in September 2016.
